Improper Ideology is a term used by the President of the United States to describe art that, in his view, falls outside an acceptable narrative. It appears to apply to work that questions authority or challenges a prescribed definition of what art should be. This collection is my response to the growing censorship of expression through the arts. By its nature, the work would likely be deemed “improper” under such a definition—hence the title.
These pieces respond to the current political climate and the unease of living within it. Through dark palettes, I express grief and anger shaped by unfolding events and the increasing pressure placed on artistic voices.
The video is a documentation of January events created on cardboard—a humble, impermanent surface chosen deliberately. Its fragility mirrors the instability of the present moment. By using a material often discarded, I underscore the sense of disposability and erosion of values I see unfolding.
